Given the invasive species problematic Puerto Rico faces, we focused on how hard it is to identify and find them. Our goal is to provide an organized and detailed record with easy access for the citizens and different entities and organizations. This way, as a community, we can fight the invasive species that affect the biodiversity of Puerto Rico while we still have time. With this web application we seek, through an interactive map that specifically records live sightings, to help with their direct management. Likewise it serves as an information center about this species and allows citizens to have the capacity to identify them and not threaten the endemic species by mistaking them for the invasive ones.
Our team features Puerto Rican students and professors, with academic majors in biology and computer science. As a team, with the support of the Inter American University and the Hybrid Laboratories internship program, we created this invasive species registry web application in Puerto Rico. By combining our skills and knowledge, we share our mutual approach to the out-of-control situation of invasive species affecting the island. Not only as professionals, but as Puerto Ricans, like everyone else, concerned for the future of Puerto Rico's biodiversity.
